There are too many weight loss plans to count, but the number of weight loss plans that actually provide tangible results in a healthy manner are actually quite few. All of these plans incorporate some common elements in the steps taken to achieve lower weight. The main goal of any of these effective plans is to improve the general health of the person, with weight loss only being a secondary effect. Any plan that focuses only on the specific goal of weight loss is not addressing the many factors that lead to a person being overweight.

Weight loss diet plans can be very different in nature, but all have the same goal – to improve the person’s diet as part of the complete program to increase the general health level of the person. In general, these weight loss diet plans will advocate that a person reduce the amount of salt, processed sugars, and unhealthy fats that are ingested. In this manner, the caloric intake is reduced and the unhealthy components of the diet are replaced with fruits and vegetables that provide many vitamins and minerals to the body. Most of these plans will require a user to monitor how many calories that they are consuming each day. The simple formula for weight loss is actually quite easy. If a person expends more calories than they ingest, then weight loss is the inevitable outcome. However, there are both healthy and unhealthy ways to achieve this end. Some programs, such as the popular Atkins and South Beach diets, instruct users to reduce the number of carbohydrates in the diet to effectively reduce caloric intake. This will indeed lower a person’s weight, but at the expense of losing some important vitamins if the user is not extremely careful about the foods they choose to eat.

A weight loss exercise plan is another component of any complete weight loss plan. Aerobic exercises provide many health benefits, with one of these being an increase of metabolism that lets the user’s body burn more calories. In particular, swimming is an excellent activity as it provides the necessary exercise while keeping impact and joint stress to a minimum. Exercises that focus on increasing strength can also be helpful as it can build muscles while the excess fat is reduced. In this manner, a person’s overall health will be improved in two ways at the same time.

One example of a plan that incorporates all of these elements is the Weight Watchers program. This diet has a line of prepared foods that meet the requirements set forth by the basic diet. In addition, dieters using Weight Watchers are also given exercise standards to meet as indicators of the overall progress in the diet. Users are given a number of points that regulate which dishes they can eat each day. With increased exercise, the users are given more points to use towards food. Although somewhat expensive, this combination of diet and exercise makes Weight Watchers one of the best weight loss plans available on today’s market.
